A Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie has urged Nigerians to be more inventive.
She wrote this on her Facebook as a response to those criticising her for her comments over Hilary Clinton‘s twitter bio.
She stirred controversy when she said she was upset by Mrs Clinton’s usage of `wife’ on her twitter bio at a PEN World Voices Festival lecture.
Some Nigerians who reacted to the interview, said she took her feminism too far, adding that the question was intrusive and Mrs Clinton has a choice on her view on being addressed as a ‘Wife.’
In her response to critics, Ms Adichie condemned Nigerians for forming lazy and shallow opinions.
She said Nigerians…"only read a headline and, without bothering to get details and context, jump on the outrage bandwagon and form lazy, shallow opinions.”
She further explained that she believed the word ‘wife’ on Mrs Clinton’s bio was used as an attempt to placate all the men and women who will not vote for a woman unless they are able to see her first in domestic terms.
She condemned those asking her to “shut up” describing it as so unoriginal as she urged Nigerians to try and be a bit more inventive.
