The Benue Digital Infrastructure Company PLC (BDIC) has successfully finalised plans to establish a state-of-the-art data centre in Benue State.
Deputy Governor Sam Ode led the company’s project implementation committee to sign the agreement with Africa Data Centres and Uni Cloud Africa Ltd, specialising in the deployment of 100 per cent local cloud solutions at the West African Lagos EKO Atlantic City.
The project entails the construction of a tier III standard data centre in Makurdi, with a disaster recovery site located in Abuja. This facility will be the second of its kind in northern Nigeria, underscoring a significant leap in the region’s digital infrastructure.
A statement signed by the project consultant, Mr Terwase Gbande and made available to Daily Trust, indicated that the BDIC data centre was expected to become the cornerstone of Benue’s digital economy.

“It aims to enhance the efficiency of the digital ecosystem, strengthen state data security, provide new skill sets and create job opportunities for the youth in Benue,” the statement reads, adding that the project aligns with the vision of Governor Hyacinth Alia to engage the youth and create wealth for the people.
The statement further explained that Africa Data Centres and Uni Cloud Africa Ltd would provide the technical expertise required to complete the BDIC data centre within six months, establish comprehensive support services, implement robust data security networks, install backup power systems and ensure complete fibre connectivity for disaster recovery.
Additionally, they will conduct training programmes for Benue youth and BDIC staff to manage the data centre effectively.
The Benue State Government delegation was led by the deputy governor, who is the chairman of the BDIC implementation committee. He was accompanied by Paul Biam, the chief of staff to the governor; Kwaghgba Amande, the commissioner for communication and digital economy, and BDIC consultant/private partner, Gbande.
