The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO), yesterday, said Governor Nasir el-Rufai is not against the Christians in Kaduna State when he picked a Muslim as his running mate ahead of next year’s elections.
The BCO, therefore, pleaded with Christians in Kaduna not to lose confidence in El-Rufai, saying the governor did not have any ulterior motive.
The group was reacting to media reports in which the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) reportedly accused the governor of “fanning the embers of ethnic and religious disunity with his Muslim-Muslim ticket.”
The Director of Communication and Strategic Planning of BCO, Malam Gidado Ibrahim, who spoke in Abuja yesterday, said there was nothing like playing the ethnic or religious card in the decision taken by El-Rufai.
Malam Ibrahim added that it was some desperate politicians hiding under tribal and ethnic sentiments that were desperate to cause disaffection in the state.
“The BCO is of the view that the Governor of Kaduna State made his choice of a running mate in good faith. Just like he rightly said, his picking a fellow Muslim is based on his strong belief in competence and the fact that governance has nothing to do with religion and tribe,” he said.
Ibrahim further said rather than attacking him, el-Rufai deserved commendation in ensuring peace reigned in Kaduna amid needless provocations.
