The National Universities Council (NUC) has issued a letter of approval to Baze University Abuja, to commence programmes in Basic Medical Sciences and Environmental Sciences, taking effect from 2016/2017 academic session.
The university also got the approval to commence the building of a Teaching Hospital.
A letter signed by NUC’s Director of Academic Standard, Dr. G Kumo said “in view of the resource evaluation carried out by panels of experts to some proposed academic programmes of the university, the management committee during its meeting held Friday 24th February, 2017, considered and approved the establishment of the full- time mode of the following academic programmes to be run in the main campus of the university, effective from 2016/2017 academic session:”
The courses are B.Sc in Archtecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Estate Management, Building, Surveying and geo-Informatics, Quantity Surveying, Human Anatomy and Human Physiology.
According to the letter, the approval does not cover the part time mode of delivery of the programmes.
While urging the varsity to provide adequate human and resources for the development of the programmes, NUC said, “All programmes shall bear only the approved title and the nomenclatures and any change will require re-approval of the commission.”
The Vice Chancellor of the Varsity, Prof. Tahir Mamman, reacting to the development said it is a huge mileage for the institution, saying, “You can imagine in one swipe we have approval for eight programmes, six in environmental and two in the medical sciences that is leap for us.”
