Bayelsa State Volunteers, a state government-run security outfit, has arrested one Bright Odigon for allegedly terrorizing and raping innocent citizens around the popular Tombia axis of Yenagoa, the state capital.

According to the acting Chairman of Bayelsa Volunteers, Mr Lucky Oyinkuro Asanakpo, the arrested suspect is a notorious criminal and serial rapist who has been terrorising innocent citizens before he was apprehended by the special squad of the security outfit.

He said Odigon had been on the watch list of the agency for over six months because of his nefarious activities under the Tombia bridge where he raped some of his victim at gun point.

The suspect, who is from Imiringi community in Ogbia LGA of the state, was arrested during a sting operation by the special squad, after robbing a Point Of Sale (POS) kiosk and a barber’s shop along Bossy Water Street in Yenagoa.

He said the suspect was in possession of clippers and phones stolen from the shops of his victims.

The suspect was also said to have been robbing female students heading to the Niger Delta University (NDU), Amasoma, especially at night and also raped some.

The Bayelsa Volunteer boss  said: “I am particularly happy that we have been able apprehend Mr. Odigon who has been on our watch list for a pretty long while. We have been monitoring him all this period before the long arm of the law caught up with him last night.

“Several others like him are equally on our list waiting to be arrest unless they repent now.

“Let me use this opportunity to send clear warning to all others operating within and outside the Tombia axis that we shall not relent in carrying out our operations any time of the day from now onwards because of the continued activities of criminals in the city centre.

He urged the citizens to report all strange movements to either the police or its office.

Odigon has since been handed over to the anti cultism unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command.

When contacted, Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, said: “The suspect was just brought, he is yet to be interrogated.”
