Bayelsa United survived a second defeat in a row as they fought back to force Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season week 2 fixture played Sunday at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
In their opening match of the season, Bayelsa United suffered a humiliating 0-3 loss to Sunshine Stars in Akure while Kano Pillars began their campaign in a spectacular fashion with a 3-0 drubbing of new boys Ikorodu United at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano.
In yesterday’s match which pitched two former national team coaches, Ladan Bosso and Pillars’ Usman Abdallah against each other, the visitors took the lead in the 40th minute through attacking winger Auwalu Ali Malam.
On resumption, Bayelsa United fought back to draw level in the 59th minute with Rabiu Abdullahi scoring his first goal of the season for the home side.

The crucial point on the road has lifted Pillars to second on the table with four points, two points less than first placed Remo Stars who have won two out of two matches played so far.
In other matches played yesterday, Abia Warriors recovered from their opening day home loss to Remo Stars to draw 1-1 with Akwa United in Uyo. Abia Warriors scored as early as the 5th minute when Adejoh Ojonugwa found the back of the net and the Umuahia side held on to the lead till the eighth minute of second half when Ezekiel Edidiong levelled scores for the hosts from the penalty spot.
At the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina United rallied back to beat Bendel Insurance 2-1 after suffering an early setback in the 17th minute when James Oronsaye scored the opener for the visitors.
But five minutes later, United’s prolific striker, Lukman Bello, drew them level before Falolu Azeez grabbed the late winner in the eighth minute of second half added time.
In the first north-central derby of the season, Nasarawa United forced Niger Tornadoes to a goalless draw in Minna while Plateau United shared the spoils on the road in a 1-1 draw with 3SC.
Meanwhile, the match between El-Kanemi Warriors and Kwara United was postponed due to the recent flood in Borno State.
