As the 3rd edition of Governor Seriake Dickson Wrestling Classics enters day two, Bayelsa State has won two gold, five silver and three bronze medals to shoot to the top of the medals table.
Bayelsa State is followed by Ondo State with 6 medals and Edo State with 4 medals respectively.
Bayelsa won gold in 48kg and 55 kg, bronze in 61kg, 53kg, 43kg and 36kg female wrestling, while Edo won gold in Greco-Roman 65kg and 55kg and 65kg in free style.
Speaking with sports writers at the indoor sports hall of the Sampson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa, President of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation, Dr Daniel Igali, warned all participants to be focused on their events as he said the selected wrestlers from the tournament will represent Nigeria at the 12th edition of All-African Games in Morocco later this year.
Igali advised the athletes to be cautious with the rules guiding the game to avoid being penalized or disqualified half way.
“The Nigerian Wrestling Federation will not hesitate to penalise any one that faults the rules of the game,” he said.
The championship will end on Sunday, June 30.
