Cultists behead man in Bayelsa

There is rising tension in Sagbama town, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State as suspected cultists on Wednesday beheaded a 30-year-old man identified as Honest Mathew, popularly known as ‘Onions’.
According to the residents of the community, the deceased was hacked to death following a renewed clash by the rival cult groups in the area fighting for supremacy and control of the town.
Though it could not be ascertained if the deceased was a member of the warring cult groups, but his severed head was taken away and hung on the electric pole for the indigene of the community to look.
A reliable source told Daily Trust that the cult groups involved in the uprising are suspected to be members of the Icelanders, Greenlanders and Bobos cult groups.
It was gathered that the killer cult group sneaked into the Sagbama town at about 1.30am on Wednesday and invaded the  deceased’s home.
They reportedly dragged him out of his house and severed his head off and took it away with them.
It was also learnt that the deceased was dragged away from his wife and three children before being ‘butchered’.
A community source told Daily Trust that there may be a reprisal attack by a rival cult group which the deceased was suspected to be a member
He said: “We are worried because of many other innocent persons in Sagbama local Government.
“The Police and Civil Defence in the council only go home and sleep once night fall.
“The state and local government need to increase security presence to ensure that those that are innocent are safe.”
Police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said police operatives have already evacuated the corpse to St Luke Mortuary in Sagbama, while an investigation was ongoing.
