Nigeria Women Professional League, NWPFL, powerhouse, Bayelsa Queens on Sunday defeated Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 to win this year’s edition of Flying Officers Cup.
The tournament staged at the Guards Brigade stadium in Abuja was organised in honour of late Flying Officer, Tolulope Arotile.
The Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League, Ms Aisha Falode declared the final game open while Mrs Arotile, the mother of the late Flying Officer performed the ceremonial kick off.
Thereafter, a minute silence was observed in honour of the late young Flying Officer who died from a head injury sustained in an accident at the Nigerian Air Force base in Kaduna state on 14 July 2020.
Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons had met during the group stage and the tie ended goalless but in the final it was the ‘Restoration Girls’ who came out victorious.
Earlier in the third-place match, the deposed champions, Edo Queens grabbed the third place after a 4-3 penalties win over Naija Ratels.
There were cash prizes at the end of the competition as first, second and third placed teams went home with N500,000, N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.
