There was panic in parts of Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, as a decomposed body of a woman simply identified as Ese was found in a gutter on along Akali street.
The deceased, said to be the mother of three children, hailed from Egbo community of Delta State.
According to the residents, the deceased was a trader who dealt on cow skin popularly known as Kpomo at the Opolo market in Yenagoa.
They said the corpse was discovered following an offensive odour around the environment, before the neighbors began to search for what brought the odour.
Upon the discovery of the decomposed body, the signs showed that she was strangled before being dragged few kilometres to the gutter, said a resident.
Already, the family members of the deceased are accusing her ex-husband and father of her children of being behind it.
A younger sister of the deceased identified as Precious, claimed that the deceased’s ex-husband was nowhere to be found and that his mobile phone was switched off.
Precious said: “On the 27th of December, 2023, she met him on the road, and forcefully retrieved the children back to the house. Thereafter the same day, he came to our house in the night, and that was the last day I saw my Aunty.
“The following day, he came and we inquired to know where my aunty was since we didn’t see her throughout the night. He (Collins) claimed the deceased traveled and will be back by Sunday.”
Police Spokesman in Bayelsa State, ASP Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the police team have already evacuated the corpse, while investigation had commenced to unravel cause of the death.
