The Bayelsa State Government under its Women and Youths Empowerment Programme, has disbursed N210 million as business startup packs to 1,050 beneficiaries.
The scheme which provides a N200,000 support grant to each small-scale business owner targets about 5,000 other traders.

The small-scale business owners who benefitted from the scheme include, food vendors, provision store operators, recharge card and POS operators, fish sellers, among others.
The Special Adviser to Governor Douye Diri on Empowerment and Secretary of the Bayelsa State Women and Youths Empowerment Programme, Eunice Akene, who presented the cash to beneficiaries in Yenagoa, said the committee will monitor beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the money while encouraging them in sustaining their businesses.
“By my records, we have empowered 1,050 Bayelsans and our projection is that we are targeting 5,000 Bayelsans to be empowered from the 105 wards in the state,” noted Akene.
