The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Alhaji Abubakar Y Suleiman has pledged to help women in the state to get positions in government.
Suleiman made the pledge when he received Women Coalition for Sustainable Peace and Viable Democratic Gains in Bauchi.
He said women have played vital role in various elections and had assisted many candidates in securing victory at the polls.
“I heard your request for more positions in the government I will discuss with the governor to see how more women will be included in the next appointments.
The speaker assured them of his support to all of their programmes.
The leader of the group, Hajiya Addaji Mohammed, told the speaker that the association is an umbrella of various women groups at the grassroots across all the 20 local government areas of the state.
He said the coalition was engaged in enlightening rural and urban women to register and ensure they voted in credible candidates during the last election.
She said they also enlighten the public on the best way to achieve sustainable peace and get viable democratic gains through participation and supporting all government laudable programmes.
Hajiya Addaji welcomed the peaceful resolution of the leadership crisis that engulfed the House of Assembly.
“This is what is expected of any well-meaning Bauchi indigenes to sheath their swords and face the onerous task of state building. This indicates that the members are more concerned about the success, development and harmony of our state and improved life for the people.”
