Bauchi State Government yesterday said it has discovered and removed 7,161 illegal employees from its payroll.

The illegal employees purportedly working with the state and local governments and pension offices were discovered after investigation of the state’s Employees’ Enrolment Portal.

The probe panel, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela, submitted the committee’s findings to the Governor Bala Mohammed yesterday in Bauchi.

Tela said N511 million would be saved monthly from the removal of illegal workers from the state’s civil service.

He also explained that the committee found that a total of 80, 236 civil servants were uploaded on the Employees Enrolment Portal for both the state and local governments.

Tela said 29,752 are under the employment of the state government and 50,484 with the local government service.

The committee, he said, recommended that severe disciplinary action should be taken on all violators of the new salary reforms, including salary managers both in the state and local government services.

Tele further revealed that the committee recommend a monitoring and evaluation committee be put in place to continuously assess the operational and technical performance of the software as well as to provide a report regularly to the chief executive.

Responding, Governor Bala Mohammed thanked the committee and assured them of prompt action on all the recommendations to sanitise the state’s civil service.
