Bauchi records 26 suspected Lassa fever‎ cases in 3 months

Bauchi State has recorded 26 suspected cases of Lassa fever from January to March 2018.

 
The Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency ( BSPHCDA), Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa stated this in Bauchi Wednesday while briefing journalists about the disease.
 
He informed that out of the 26 suspected cases, four persons have been confirmed positive, two have died while one person have been treated and discharged and one other person is currently receiving treatment.
 
Gamawa said that the cases were recorded from five local government areas of Bauchi, Dass, Toro, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro.
 
According to him, the state rapid response team was doing everything possible to address the menace of Lassa fever in the state.
 
The chairman added that 60 health care workers have been trained on early detection of the disease as well as referral measures.
 
" We have 60 health volunteers from across all the local government areas of the state because of suspected cases regularly from Dass, Bogoro, Bauchi, Tafawa Balewa and Toro.They have been trained on detecting the symptoms of the disease for early referral "
 
"When you are able to detect the disease early, you can save lives, but when it is detected late, there is very little one cab do to save such a person" he said.‎
 
He therefore urged people of the state to always report suspected symptoms of the disease to the nearest primary health care centre.
 
He urged people to always maintain personal and environmental hygiene to prevent outbreak of diseases in their communities.
