Bauchi State has recorded 22 new confirmed cases of yellow fever and six of Lassa fever in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, who disclosed this to Daily Trust in a telephone interview, yesterday in Bauchi, said yellow fever had spread from Miya A Ward to Miya C ward in Ganjuwa LGA with 22 new confirmed cases.

“Two more patients suffering from yellow fever had last week died from the disease in Miya A Ward bringing the total number of deaths to 10 in the recent outbreak in the state.
“The 22 confirmed positive cases of yellow fever in Ganjuwa LGA were out of 63 samples tested, while the Lassa fever cases were only in two LGAs of Toro and Tafawa Balewa. Already, six people have been confirmed positive to Lassa fever,” Mohammed said.
He said a total of 986 NYSC members posted to the state including the staff were vaccinated against yellow fever because of the proximity of the orientation camp to Ganjuwa LGA.
Mohammed further explained that all the cases were from two wards of Ganjuwa LGA and the agency had since reactivated its rapid response team that included Case Management Pillar, Surveillance and Risk Communication Pillars for the continuation of the vaccination exercise.
He said the agency was, however, worried over the apathy exhibited by people who were refusing to be vaccinated in spite of the education and enlightenment programmes embarked upon by the agency.
“We have radio, television and other messages, yet the people are refusing to be vaccinated against yellow fever,” he added.
