Bauchi pays WAEC, NECO fees for 14,170 students

The Bauchi State Government, through the Ministry of Education, has released the sum of N396.9 million to cover the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO) and National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) fees of 14,170 SS3 students in public schools across the state for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Commissioner for Education, Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, who disclosed this in a press briefing, said Governor Bala Mohammed also approved the settling of over N800m in debts incurred by previous administrations to continue down payments for examination fees from 2020.

The commissioner explained that in a further demonstration of commitment to educational excellence, the payments for NECO, WAEC and NBAIS examinations extended to all indexed students who successfully passed the aptitude test conducted by the Ministry of Education on February 1, 2024.

She said, “This initiative aims to ensure that students are suitably prepared to excel in their external examinations, thus promoting quality education across the state.”

Mrs Dahiru further disclosed that the generosity extended to covering the JAMB examination fees totalling N9.5m for 1,542 students who exhibited outstanding performance during the aptitude test.
