Lawyers have commended Bauchi State government for adopting the “Administration of Criminal Justice Law” to ease prosecution and administration in criminal acts related legal issues.
Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Bauchi State chapter, Barrister Mahmood Maidoki gave the commendation in a speech during the opening of the 2018 Annual Law Week in Bauchi.
According to him, Bauchi State version of the law has been passed into law and waiting for executive assent by Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.
“The administration of Criminal Justice Law is a substantial departure from the old model Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) which is of colonial heritage,” he said.
He however noted that, the new law posses innovations which also come with their own challenges.
“Therefore, I call upon lawyers, Judges, police, prison and all other stakeholders to firmly hook up with our programme of events to enable them prepare to overcome the challenges that may accompany the new innovations,” he urged.
