Bauchi monarchs warned against felling of trees

The District Head of Lame, Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame and his Toro counterpart,  Alhaji Umar Adamu Toro, have cautioned their subjects against indiscriminate felling down of trees.

They also warned against Fulani herdsmen and farmers clashes. They gave the warning separately while speaking with reporters on environmental degradation and illegal felling of trees. They alleged that the problem has persisted because of the connivance of forestry officials with illegal loggers.

They called on the authorities to punish anybody found felling the trees.

The traditional rulers commended Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir and the Emir of Bauchi for taking bold steps order to address the problems of environmental degradation in the state.

The monarchs said they had been able to settle a number of disputes involving herders and farmers in their respective domains.

“Presently, I am battling with one of such cases that has lingered for over 42 years but with the help of Allah we are getting closer to end of the dispute between the parties,’’ Alhaji Aliyu said.

He attributed most of the disputes to selfishness and greed.

District Head of Toro said: “I resolve the disputes by guiding the parties to have an understanding and the need to live in harmony.

He advised people to always the fear of Allah and always be their brothers’ keepers.
