Bauchi State Government has lunched a Strategic Development Plan (SDP) for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) activities in the state.
Speaking during the opening of the three days Validation workshop Secretary to the State Government (SSG), ‎Alhaji Mohammed Nadada Umar said that the plan was developed to involve 323 communities who will take ownership of the ‎plan.
Umar, who was represented by the Commissioner of Women’s Affairs Hajiya Rukayya Kewa, said that government has brought a paradigm shift in the activities of Bauchi state Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA).
According to him, the establishment of OVC leagues across the 323 wards of the 20 local government areas of the state was to encourage ‎community participation and ownership of OVC activities in the state.
“The communities will coordinate activities of OVC and caregivers at the ward level towards improving the lives of orphans and vulnerable, he said.
‎Speaking earlier, the Chairman Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children (BASOVCA), Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulhamid said that funding, poor data management system from generation usage, inadequate human resource and capacity  to support implementation of intended actions are the major challenges identified against OVC activities in the state.
“Funding is considered to be major challenge in accomplishing the earmarked of OVC activities particularly in achieving substantial evidence based result, hence the need for State OVC strategic Development plan for the OVC sector,” he said
On her part, the OVC Strategic Plan Lead Consultant Mrs Faith lannap, said the validation workshop will have impact on the strategic plan for orphans children in the state.
