Bauchi Coalition Against Financial Crimes and Injustice (BACAFCI) has petitioned the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, alleging that House of Representatives member, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed Baba, in conjunction with Governor Mohammed Abubakar were working against direct primaries in the APC.
In a petition signed by the Secretary General of the Coalition, Yakubu Alhaji Jibrin and addressed to Oshiomhole, the group said the opposition to direct primaries is inimical to Oshiomhole’s dream of providing quality leadership for the APC. “We write to inform you of the activities of one Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed Baba, Member Federal House of Representatives from Katagum Federal Constituency in Bauchi State, who is appalled at you for introducing Direct Primary Elections in the APC.
“Bauchi State being the second home of President Muhammadu Buhari, almost lost the recent by-election for the Bauchi South Senatorial District to the opposition party due to the state governor’s vehement refusal to adopt the direct primaries as suggested by your good office.
“Be that as it may, certain elements who are afraid of losing their seats to popular aspirants chose to openly use money to procure party delegates ahead of the primary elections.
“Our organisation is also aware that such elements are tirelessly holding meetings with local government and state party members under the supervision of the state,” the group alleged.
