Bauchi State Government has imposed curfew on five communities after reported violence which occurred in the areas last Sunday.
The state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Bauchi Government House on Tuesday.
“In order to ensure peace among the communities and to prevent the hoodlums in the affected areas from further escalating the disturbance from spreading to other parts of the state, the government has decided to impose a curfew from the hours of 7:00 pm to 6:00 am from today, 20th November, 2018 until further notice,” he said.
The affected communities, according to him, are: Yelwa Tsakani, Lushi, Unguwar Kusu, Unguwar Ngas and Kagadama.
The governor said that, the sad moment on Sunday, 18th November, 2018 occurred following a misunderstanding between some youths around Yelwa Tsakani and Lushi communities during a birthday party.
He lamented that the situation degenerated into a communal crisis leading to loss of 3 people and destruction of two houses in the area.
The curfew was imposed after rising tension on Tuesday as youths confronted policemen deployed to maintain peace in the communities.
Several women also demonstrated yesterday when Governor Abubakar visited the area to access the situation.
The women reportedly demanded the unconditional release of the youths arrested after the violence.
It would be recalled that 18 people were reportedly injured while 75 people were arrested by the police during the conflict.
