Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has suspended the Emir of Misau, Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman in the aftermath of communal clashes in Malumji village, Zadawa Misau LGA which led to the death of nine people with six others sustaining injuries.

The governor announced the suspension of the traditional ruler alongside the district head of Chiroma; village head of Zadawa in Hardawa District and other traditional rulers in the affected areas pending the outcome of investigations into the remote and immediate causes of the skirmishes in the area.

He made the pronouncement during the inauguration of a13-man administrative panel of investigation yesterday in Bauchi.

Daily Trust Saturday reports that communal clashes broke out in Malumji village in Zadawa of Misau LGA last Monday and Tuesday over land dispute between herders and farmers with alleged connivance of some local government officials in the area.

The governor said information at the disposal of the government implicated the traditional institutions in the area for negligence which he said led to “needless clashes”, adding that for the period of their suspension, they are not to travel out of Misau and must cooperate with the investigative panel in carrying out its official function.

Mohammed declared that anyone found culpable in the clash no matter how highly placed in the society will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land, adding that the clash was avoidable.

The governor, who gave the panel three weeks to submit its report, directed its members carry out their assignment without fear or favour.

Mohammed had Wednesday suspended the Caretaker Chairman of Misau Local Government Council  Mohammed Yarọ Gwaram alongside his deputy Baidu Liman and Alhaji Usman Abdu Secretary of the council pending the outcome of the investigation.
