President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the release of N800 million for flood rehabilitation in Jama’are local government area of Bauchi state.
The State Governor, Bala Mohammed disclosed this when he visited areas affected by flooding along Jama’are river in Jama’are local government area of the state.
He said the funds was approved under the federal government’s ecological project.
Governor Mohammed urged the federal government to look into the possibility of providing a dam in Jama’are as part of measures to avert re-occurrence of flooding in the area.
He also cautioned farmers in the area against farming or building on waterways to prevent destruction of their crops and buildings by flood.
While assuring the affected victims for immediate government’s intervention, the governor expressed gratitude to the people of the local government for their support to his administration.
Speaking, the Acting Head of Administration, Jama’are local government, Bala Hafizu said that over 100 farmlands and properties worth over N100 million have been destroyed as a result of flooding.
