Primary School Community, located at the Sabon Garin Narabi area of Toro Local Government Area in Bauchi State, is crying out for help due to the absence of electricity for over a year, saying the situation has kept them in darkness and severely impacted on residents.

Residents of the community alleged that they were plunged into darkness when, in July last year, members of staff of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company removed their 500 AKV transformer, claiming that they would repair it and return within two days, but it is now a year and they are yet to return it.

“We had electricity in the community, but overnight, some members of staff of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company in charge of the area came and removed the transformer. This is almost a year now and the transformer has not been returned and no reason has been given. We have called them severally but they have not returned it. We are begging the management of the company to take action,” Muhammad Auwal, the chairman of the community said.

Muhammad Sani, also a community leader said, “We have reported the case to their headquarters but nothing has been done about it.”

Lamenting that the situation is affecting them negatively, another resident of the community, Ibrahim Umar said, “We have the receipt of the transformer. It was given to us by the Bauchi State Government. Since they took it away, we have not heard anything from them. We reported the matter to their headquarters, yet nothing has been done.” He called on the management of the company to come to their aid.

When contacted for reaction to the allegation by residents of the community, the spokesperson of the company, Dr Friday Elijah, said he was not aware that the transformer was taken away.
