The Bauchi State House of Assembly has elected Hon Babayo Muhammad as Speaker.
The new speaker currently represents Hardawa Constituency
The Assembly equally elected the member representing Dass Constituency, Hon Ahmad Abdullahi, as the new Deputy Speaker.
The decision followed the nullification of the elections of the immediate past speaker and deputy speaker, Abubakar Y Suleiman, and Jamilu Umaru Dahiru respectively by the Court Appeal in Abuja.
The election of the new Speaker followed a nomination by Member, representing Shira Constituency Auwal Hassan and was seconded by Member representing Burra Tanko Ibrahim.

Both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker were sworn in by the Clerk of the House Umar Yusuf Gital.
Subsequently, the Speaker was escorted to his seat by the mover and seconder of the nomination as well as the Deputy Speaker.
In his acceptance Speech, the new Speaker thanked Allah for his emergence and assured people of the state that his doors will remain open.
Muhammad also commended his colleagues for the confidence and trust to lead the assembly, adding that the house would do everything possible for the overall development of the state.
