Gunmen kill Bauchi lawmaker, abduct wives, daughter

Baraza was killed in his village at Baraza, Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Speaker of the House, Abubakar Suleiman, who declared the seat vacant Wednesday during plenary of the house, said the decision followed the death of Mante Baraza.

Suleiman said it was done based on the power vested on him by the Nigerian constitution.

The speaker directed the Clerk of the House to formally inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the development.

It would be recalled that on August 14, 2020, the lawmaker was killed by armed men, while two of his wives and daughter were kidnapped.

The police later rescued the wives and one-year-old daughter.
