Artists converged on Bauchi at the weekend to raise funds for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the North-east region.
The artists organised a concert under the aegis of “Tamburan Fasaha Bauchi”, an independent multimedia association in Bauchi State, in collaboration with the government.
An album on the need for peace in the country was also launched at the event. The artists said the money generated from the sale of the album will be used to assist the IDPs.
Speaking at the occasion, chairman of the association, Mallam Suleiman SK, said members were moved by the plight of the people who were displaced from their villages and towns by insurgents.
He called on wealthy individuals to assist displaced persons, not only in Bauchi State, but other parts of the North as well.
He urged government to establish more vocational training centres and upgrade existing ones so that IDPs as well as other unemployed young people can be trained on skills which will make them productive.
Deputy National Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Sunusi Mai Jama’a, said neglect of core values is responsible for most of the nation’s problems.
Highlight of the event was the launch of the album by representative of the Minister of Youths and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, Alhaji Shehu Aljan.
The minister through his representative, bought ten copies at N200,000, while Speaker Yakubu Dogara bought ten copies at N1million through the member representing Lere/Bula constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Mohammed Aminu Tukur.
