Bauchi State Agency for the control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria (BACATMA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have called on journalists to continue their support for the fight against Malaria.
Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr. Mohammed Sambo Alkali made the call at a Media Parley organised for journalists on behavioural change in the use of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN).
He said journalists have always been in the forefront of Anti-Malaria campaigns through their sustained reportage on programmes and initiatives at various levels.
Speaking further, he added that the importance of media in general and journalists in particular made it imperative for a strong engagement to ensure adequate coverage of the campaign to achieve its set objectives.
He disclosed that as part of the measures to combat Malaria, Bauchi State Government and USAID will distribute 3.8 LLIN to vulnerable households in the state.
Dr Alkali added that, the fight against Malaria is being run through the United States President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) to ensure the elimination of malaria in the state.
The BACATMA chairman, informed that the exercise would be triennial with routine replacement of the nets to controlling the scourge of malaria in the state.

Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator, Breakthrough Action Nigeria, Bauchi Field Office Mr. Usman Inuwa called on participants to intensify efforts in educating people on the importance of sleeping under the treated nets, which he said will help in eliminating Malaria in the state and Nigeria at large.
