Five people have been jailed by a high court sitting in Ilọrin, the Kwara State capital following their prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for defrauding some US citizens and for being in possession of suspicious funds.
The convicts are 24-year-old seafarer, Aladekomo Ayodele Samuel, from Ekiti State; Mustapha Bashir, a 24-year-old electrician from Kwara; Sulyman Mustapha and Adedayo Samuel, both barbers from Kogi and Kwara states respectively; and Adeoye Quadri Olalekan, an HND II student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
Except Sulyman Mustapha whose trial came up before Justice Adebayo Yusuf, others were convicted by Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar.
The defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges.
Counsels to the EFCC, Andrew Akoja, Muinat Bello and Isabel Adeniran, urged the court to convict them.
The justices jailed the convicts six months and ordered the forfeiture of phones and various amounts recovered running into several millions as restitution to the federal government.
