Barata and the race for the APC ticket

In the case of Senator Ahmed Hassan Barata, the belief intensified when he made public his intention to vie for the ticket of the party as most analysts say he is being sponsored by the former vice president.
Sources close to him say while he enjoys a good relationship with the former vice president, he is in the race based on the conviction that he has what it takes to govern the state.
His media aide, Hussain Hayatu, said though Barata values the relationship between him and the former vice president, he has other things working for him to secure the ticket of the APC.
The APC primary has been slated for the 7th of September and there are currently no less than seven persons vying for the position.
They are Senator Bindow Jibrilla, Senator Ahmed Hassan Barata, Alhaji Dahiru Bobbo, Emmanuel Bello, Mr. Boss Mustapha, Mr. Yakubu Tsala and Ibrahim Mijinyawa.
Barata had observed while declaring to run as governor that he is on a rescue mission to save Adamawa.
“A crude privatisation of power is taking place in our state, with a crippling effect on the citizens and all institutions of state. I do not think that is the way to go. That is the essence of the rescue mission to which, I have come to you, so that we can sojourn to the Promised Land together,” he had said.
But as other aspirants are also said to be with Atiku, it is not known how they could distinguish themselves to clinch the party’s ticket.
His media aide said the aspirant is working towards  building coalitions in the public sphere which can rise above  the orientation of elders or an elite conclave.
Barata himself has suggested this in a recent outing when he said the platform which will be permanent must seek to recreate an image of industry, hardwork, integrity and dedication to duty that it can consistently uphold adding that agriculture and integrated rural development, rebuilding of collapsed infrastructure, qualitative education, healthcare, women and youth empowerment are his focus.
Barata defected from the PDP to the APC in early February 2014. He was a member of the House of Representatives before going to the Senate and has been described as a grassroots politician, who has fought his way from the local, state to the national level, spanning over two decades.
