Suspected bandits set ablaze a patroling vehicle belonging to local vigilantes along Birnin Gwari -Kaduna Highway

Suspected bandits set ablaze a patrolling vehicle belonging to local vigilantes along Birnin Gwari -Kaduna Highway.
Daily Trust gathered that the incident happened on Friday around 4:30 pm when the bandits attacked the vigilantes while on duty.
It was gathered that no member of the vigilante was killed or injured during the attack.
A community leader at Udawa, Muhammadu Umar, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said that the incident happened around Buruk -Udawa Highway at a place called unguwar Yako on the dangerous Kaduna -Birnin Gwari Highway.
“Our men were patrolling the highway when they came under attack.
“They engaged the bandits in gun duel but the bandits were able to set ablaze the Golf vehicle belonging to our vigilantes,” he said.
According to him, no vigilante was killed during the attack, urging the government to assist them with another vehicle.
Daily Trust gathered that the burnt vehicle was the last functional vehicle used by the vigilantes to patrol the highway.
The first vehicle was involved in an accident few days ago while on duty on same route in which a vigilante member died, while 13 others sustained serious injuries.
They are now receiving treatment at Birnin Gwari hospital.
When contacted, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said he was not officially informed of the incident, but will contact the Divisional Police Officer of the area to find out.
However, he didn’t call back as at the time of filing the report.
