Suspected bandits have seized two loaded trucks with smuggled goods inside a deep forest as they were being brought into Nigeria.
It was gathered that the bandits confiscated the goods as the smugglers decided to use the forest to bring in the smuggled items few days ago around the Batsari area of Katsina State.
The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone B, Kaduna, Comptroller Dalha Wada Chedi, who disclosed this yesterday at a news briefing, said the smugglers used dangerous routes that are under bandits’ control to smuggle items into the country.
“We just received the news less than 24 hours ago that bandits have seized two trucks loaded with smuggled items inside the forest. We understand also that a J5 vehicle was also seized by the bandits around that axis,” he said.

The comptroller said the country’s borders were too porous, making it difficult to be manned by customs, especially where bandits are based.
The comptroller said the customs had decided to join hands with other security agencies to seal off all the illegal borders located in Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi, among others.
