In a daring assault, a gang of heavily armed bandits targeted a military camp in Nahuta village, Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina.

According to residents, the attack occurred around 11:30 pm on Sunday, with the criminals wielding sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles.

Although the security personnel at the camp successfully repelled the assailants, the bandits managed to set ablaze military vehicles and damage property during the encounter.

Despite the outnumbering odds, no casualties were reported among the military personnel.

Exploiting the chaos, the marauders proceeded to invade Nahuta town, where they ransacked shops, homes, and made off with valuables and domestic animals worth millions of naira. As of the latest report, security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident.

According to a military source, over 100 terrorists were involved in the assault on the military camp, burning down two Nigerian Army vehicles.

Daily Trust gathered that the attackers, organized into three groups, overwhelmed the military, leading to a strategic retreat to avoid casualties.

In the aftermath of the attack, residents of Nahuta were seen fleeing the community in fear.

The exodus of villagers was prompted by the subsequent invasion of the terrorists, who looted shops, seized food items, and killed several cattle.

The fleeing residents were reported to have sought refuge in nearby communities such as Batsari town and Wagini village, perceived to be relatively safe.

Despite the terrifying experience, some residents acknowledged the efforts of the military in safeguarding the community but expressed concerns about the need for additional weapons and ammunition to bolster the defense capabilities of the military camp.

Authorities, including the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, and the spokesman of the 17 Brigade Nigeria Army in Katsina, Oliza Ethinlaiye, had not commented on the incident as at the time of filing this report.

Daily Trust observed increasing rate of bandits’ attacks in recent days after months of relative peace in the state, with some observers linking the hike to the recent military onslaught in Zamfara state against bandits and their resultant migration to Katsina state.
