The Jere emirate council’s secretary, Malam Aliyu Zubair, confirmed the kidnapping, saying six people were abducted in the area based on the information at his disposal.
He said the bandits invaded the late emir’s private around 10:12pm on Sunday, and abducted one person, before proceeding to a neighbour’s house, where they whisked away five people.
“And before the police arrived, the bandits had escaped. It was our vigilantes who tried to engage them, but they were overpowered because the guns the bandits were carrying were more sophisticated than those of the vigilantes,” he said.
