Bandits kill police officer in Ogun

A police inspector serving at Ayetoro Division of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolayo Olajide, has been shot dead by suspected bandits.

The inspector was killed in a gun battle between the police and the suspected bandits in a forest at Saala Orile in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Our correspondent gathered that operatives of the state police command, on a rescue operation, had engaged the bandits in a gun battle which lasted for about two minutes.

It was further gathered that two suspected bandits were also killed in the encounter while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed this to journalists in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
