A resident of Gozaki, Abdullahi Gozaki, told Daily Trust that the gunmen who were about 10 in number also abducted the two wives of the slain councillor, but later released them.

“They attacked in the early hours of today (Wednesday) around 12:30 am, killed the councillor and abducted his two wives but later sent them back home,” he said.

That was not the first time that Gozaki town would be attacked. There were a number of kidnap incidents in the area last year, among which was that of the newlywed bride of an immigration officer.

Bandits also invaded Funtua, still in Katsina. Witnesses said armed men said to be about 100 attacked Dutsen Reme low cost around 11:00pm where one Buhari Amadu (aka Buhari Michael), a member of staff of Bakori local government council, who operated as a vigilante, was shot dead.

A boy between 10 and 12 years of age, simply identified as Usman, was also killed during the attack.

They also attacked Dan Rimi area of Malumfashi, headquarters of Malumfashi local government, where two wives of a filling station manager were said to be abducted.
