Bandits kill muazzin calling for prayer in Zamfara

Bandits have killed a muazzin while he was calling for subhi prayer in Magazu community of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Residents told our correspondent that the muazzin was inside the mosque close to his residence when the armed men struck and shot him dead.

Magazu, located 40km South of Gusau, the state capital, along Gusau-Funtua road, had drawn the ire of the armed criminals after the body of their slain colleague was found near the community recently.

Since then, the bandits vowed to avenge the killing of their brother which they blamed on the residents of the community.

In Wednesday’s raid on the community, the bandits also abducted one person and immediately demanded N7m.

A resident said, “We were not the ones who killed their kinsman.”

Our correspondent further gathered that the bandits are closing in on Magazu town despite the presence of security operatives in the community.

There was no reaction from the police in the state on the incident.
