Bandits kill groom in Niger

A newly wedded groom identified as Yahaya Masinja, a staff of the Government Secondary School (GSS), Allawa, Shiroro LGA of Niger State, has been reportedly shot dead by bandits.

City & Crime gathered that Masinja was killed at the Maganda Junction on the Allawa-Pandogari Road around 6pm on Monday while returning to Allawa with his bride.

A resident, who didn’t want his name mentioned, told City & Crime that, “When they saw the bandits, they abandoned the vehicle loaded with foodstuff and ran into the forest. While hiding in the bush, bandits kick-started the truck to take it away, and Mallam Yahaya rushed out of the forest thinking it was his fellow travellers who wanted to leave, asking them to wait for him, and the bandits shot him. They couldn’t move with the truck, but they stole a lot of foodstuff and set the vehicle ablaze.”

Jibrin Allawa, the President of Lakpma Youth Assembly, said Masinja was killed on his way to Allawa with his newly wed bride.

He also confirmed that the bandits burnt down the Mitsubishi truck loaded with foodstuff and stole food items and the fuel in the truck.

Allawa urged the government that the Allawa Game Reserve that provided shelter for the bandits should be put to use to checkmate their free movement.
