Bandits kill 7, abduct nurses, others in Kaduna, Sokoto

Bandits have killed seven people and abducted many others, including nurses in Kaduna and Sokoto states.

Five people were reportedly killed and several others kidnapped after bandits attacked Kallah Afogo in the Kajuru LGA of Kaduna State.

Locals reported that the bandits stormed the village around 11:15pm on Sunday, breaking into houses to capture their victims.

Daily Trust gathered that those killed in Kallah were Garkuwa Alfarma, Buhari Maidiga, Uba Auta, Yakubu Thomas Gaku, and Atabata Naallah. One of the victims, who pursued the bandits into the bush, was killed.

Also, bandits launched another attack on Bakin Pah in the Maro Ward of the same LGA, where one person was killed and six others kidnapped.

A local, who identified himself as Maigari Ben, called on security agencies to enhance security in the communities and ensure the safe return of those abducted.

In another incident, bandits abducted nurses at a Primary Health Care Centre at Layin Dan Auta village in Kuyello Ward, Birnin Gwari Area of Kaduna State.

According to community sources, the bandits had targeted a primary school in Kuyello, located on the outskirts of the town.

However, when they could not find pupils to abduct, they reportedly moved to the nearby hospital where they abducted the nurses on duty.

A community leader in the area, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident and described the situation as worrisome.

“They arrived in the area and went straight to a nearby school, thinking they would find students. However, the school was empty, so they proceeded to the PHC in Kuyello and abducted the nurses on duty,” he said.

Another youth leader in Kuyello, Baba Isah, also confirmed the incident.

He stated that the two nurses were on duty when the bandits attacked. It remains unclear if any patients were abducted, as most had already left the hospital.

The police spokesman in Kaduna, ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached for comment as his phone was not connecting.

Bandits reportedly killed one person and abducted four others in Gumburawa village, in Wamakko LGA of Sokoto State.

Gumburawa, situated near Usmanu Danfodio University on the outskirts of Sokoto city, was attacked in the wee hours of Monday.

A resident, Malam Sa’idu Muhammad Gumburawa, who had previously been kidnapped by bandits, told Daily Trust that the attackers targeted some houses during their 30-minute raid.

“They killed one person and kidnapped four others. They arrived around midnight and left after about 30 minutes,” he said.

When contacted, the Sokoto State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Rufa’i, said he would provide further details after confirming the incident with the Divisional Police Office in the area.
