Suspected bandits have reportedly shot dead five soldiers in an ambush and set their truck ablaze in Audu-Jangwan village near Alheri Camp in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.
A community leader in the area, who preferred anonymity, through telephone, said the incident happened on Thursday around 6pm.
He said, “The Alheri Camp is just a few metres from Audu-Jangwan village. It is one of the soldiers’ camps located along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. It was there the bandits came from the bush and laid ambush, killing five soldiers, and also burnt down their truck.”
Our reporter also learnt that 162 rustled cows were on Saturday recovered by soldiers during raids on bandits’ camps in the Iche Forest in Kagarko LGA.
A resident, Sama’ila Adamu, said the cows were rustled from a Fulani settlement in the community two weeks ago.
The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, was yet to confirm the incidents.
