Armed bandits, on Wednesday night, killed two people at Kerawa Ward of Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.

The latest killing came barely 48 hours after bandits killed one person and injured two others including a mobile policeman at Kuyello village in Birnin Gwari LGA of the state.

The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Homes Affairs, Samuel Aruwan in a statement issued yesterday said local vigilantes repelled the Kerawa attack.

Aruwan said security agencies had reported that the bandits attacked Gidan Maikudi hamlet, a herders’ settlement at Kerawa ward.

He said the bandits stormed the community in an attempt to kidnap residents.

He further said local vigilantes in the community mobilised to repel the attack, and in the ensuing gunfight, beat back the bandits who withdrew with several casualties.

“However, one resident, Alhaji Maikudu Husaini, was shot dead during the skirmish. His brother, Nafiu Husaini, also succumbed to gunshot wounds as he was rushed to a hospital,” he said

Aruwan said Governor Nasir El-Rufai noted the report with sadness and prayed for the repose of the souls of the slain while offering his condolences to their families.

Daily Trust also gathered from other sources in the village that the bandits also attacked Angwar Najaja, Anaba, Angwar Zangon Wada and Kamacha all within the kerawa ward same Thursday.
