Bandits invade Kaduna village, kill one, abduct three

Suspected bandits have invaded Wusasa area in Zaria, Kaduna State, killing one person and abducting three others.

The village head, Engineer Isiyaku Yusuf, who confirmed the incident said the bandits came in their numbers around 10pm on Wednesday and invaded the residence of one Dr. Oderinde in Wusasa Central.

“The young man who was alleged to have been killed was one Oluwakemi Israel Oluwatosin, while those abducted were Douglas Silas, Treasure Yohanna Victor and the son of the landlord Precious Oderinde,” Yusuf said.

He added, “When they arrived the man’s house, they tried to break the door while shooting sporodically into the air but didn’t succeed. In the process, a tenant heard some noises and came out. After seeing them with guns, he retreated to his room and shut the door.

“That prompted the bandits to shoot at the door and unfortunately the tenant was hiding behind the door, so he was instantly shot in the chest and died.

“The bandits then abducted three young men, including the landlord’s son and took them away.”

The village head, however, said he alerted the police and members of the vigilante group who arrived at the scene shortly after the bandits had gone.

He said the Divisional Police Officer of the area combed the nearby bush in search of the kidnappers to no avail.

Yusuf lamented that seven residents had lost their lives in recent times as a result of banditry attacks, blaming the incidents on the release of some arrested bandits’ informants in the area.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mohammed Jalinge, said he was in a meeting and promised to call back. However, he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
