Bandits gun down herder in Abuja suburb

Bandits have shot dead a herder, Shehu Kwarjini, and abducted another person at a Fulani settlement at Gwombe village in Gwargwada chiefdom of Kuje Area Council of Abuja.

A resident of Gwombe, Shuaibu Adamu, said the incident happened around 1:37 pm on Saturday when bandits in their large numbers, wielding weapons, attacked a Fulani settlement in the area.

He said the bandits shot and killed one of the herders who attempted to escape, saying the sound of gunshots by the bandits also threw the community into panic.

The Agabe of Ugbada-Gwargwada chiefdom, His Royal Highness (HRH) Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam, confirmed the abduction of a herder and the killing of one person over the phone to our reporter on Sunday.

He said the village chief of Gwombe reported the incident to him at his palace on Saturday morning, saying the corpse of the herder was evacuated by the police and buried at Rubochi.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, DSP Adeh Josephine, was yet to reply to a text message sent to her about the incident as of press time.
