Bandits flee with 2 women, kid as troops rescue 7 in Kaduna

Bandits have reportedly escaped with two women and a kid among the nine victims that were abducted from Azzara village in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.

 City & Crime gathered that the bandits narrowly escaped with the victims who are women and a kid after troops from Jere stormed their camp and rescued seven out of the nine victims.

 It was earlier reported that bandits had on March 6, 2024, invaded Azzara village in Kachia LGA of the state and whisked away nine villagers, which comprised of seven male adults and two women alongside a child.

 A resident of Azzara, Magaji Usman, who is a relation of two among the victims, confirmed the rescue of seven victims through telephone to our reporter on Monday.

 He said the troops were alerted during negotiation of ransom with family of the victims and they stormed their den on Saturday, rescued seven among the nine victims in captivity.

 “The victim’s family had started negotiating for ransom to the extent of begging the bandits to accept N2 million, but the troops on that same day stormed their camp and rescued seven among the victims,” he said.

 He said the bandits upon hearing the heavy gun fire from the troops, fled from the camp with two women and a child.

 He said the troops were still moving from one forest to another tracing where the bandits relocated to in order to rescue the remaining two women and the child from the bandits.

 A community leader in the area, who preferred anonymity for security reasons, confirmed the rescue of seven victims among the nine including a child that were abducted by bandits from the community.

 The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, SP Hassan Mansur, did not pick calls or reply to text message sent to him on the incident as at the time of filling the report.
