Bandits flee as troops raid camps, set motorcycles ablaze in Kaduna

Several bandits were said to have reportedly escaped with bullets injures following a raid on their camps in Kurutu and neighbouring Hayin -Dam forests, which borders Kagarko and Kachia LGAs of Kaduna state.

A vigilante from Kurutu, simply identified as Sama’ila, said the raid was carried out on Saturday, around 11:12 am by the troops who engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle in the area.

He said the bandits, who were taken unaware suffered casualties, saying some of the bandits were forced to abandon their motorcycles and several other things as well as food items and fled for safety.

He said some bandits were killed during the raid by the troops, even as he said some motorcycles being used by bandits were set ablaze at the two camps.

A community leader also confirmed the incident through telephone with our reporter on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

He said “ It was fire for fire on Saturday when the gallant soldiers engaged the bandits who have been a threat to us and dislodged them, while some of them were killed. I can say Alhamdulilah, may God continue to protect the troops.”

City & Crime recalled that a joint security team, which comprised of guard brigade, FCT Police Command, hunters and vigilante had last month invaded one of the bandits’ camps at Kurutu forest and dislodged them with some of them arrested.
