The Management of the Federal Government College, Sokoto, has debunked the news making the round that the school was closed because of security threat.
A statement signed by the Principal of the college, Ibrahim Uba, said there was no such threat received from any quarter.

“To set the record straight, on Monday, September, 13 a group of students from FGC, Birnin Yauri, who were relocated to the college as a result of the unfortunate incident that occurred in their school some months ago converged together with the intention of going home.”
“They hinged their decision on the purported letter received from bandits by the management of the school which created tension and panic among the other students and staff of the college.
“But the management of the college was able to disabuse their minds that there was no such letter received from bandits or any criminal gang nor any security threat to the school from any quarter,” the statement said
The statement added that the management after due consultation with relevant stakeholders and security agencies resolved to close the school to forestall further tension, as the students had already concluded their promotional examination, marking the end of this session.
It added that it was in contact with security agencies concerning the security of lives and property of students and that of the staff.
“Even with the prompt decision to close the school, adequate arrangement was put in place to cater for students who wish to stay back, especially final students who were currently writing their WAEC,” the statement added.
Daily Trust reports that some people (not staff of the college) had been sending text messages, telling people to go and pick their children from the school that there was a letter from bandits threatening to attack it.
