Bandits demand petrol, recharge cards as ransom in Niger

Some bandits have reportedly demanded petrol and recharge cards in addition to cash as ransom from farmers in Mariga LGA of Niger State for their relations in captivity.

Our correspondent was also told that those who went to deliver the first batch of ransom were whipped for not bringing petrol and recharge cards along with cash as demanded.

One of the farmers, who preferred anonymity, said, “The people that went to deliver the ransom were whipped for not bringing enough money, as well as petrol and recharge cards. They also demanded motorcycles before those in captivity would be released.

Residents said their cattle had also been rustled in the last five days.
