Bandits attack Birnin Gwari village cart away foodstuffs, motorcycles

Armed bandits have attacked Damari Village in Dogon Dawa constituency of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State

Armed bandits have attacked Damari Village in Dogon Dawa constituency of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State and carted away large quantity of foodstuffs and motorcycles.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday when the armed men on motorcycles stormed the village around 2pm unchallenged.

The Chairman Birnin Gwari Progressive Emirate Union (BEPU) Barrister Salisu Haruna, who confirmed the incident in a statement sent to Daily Trust, said the bandits only took away the food items and a number of motorcycles without  killing anybody.

“They did not kill anyone. They spent 3 hours in Damari village without any confrontation by security and took away food items,” he said.

He also expressed their concerned that there were no policemen along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway 7 days after the state police command said  it had deployed more personnel to the area.

According to him, the deployment is yet to be fulfilled as promised, saying the bandits have continued to perpetrate their heinous acts unabated.

BEPU begs the government to sit up and face security issues in Birnin Gwari squarely until victory is ascertained.

  • Group Commends Army

The group further commended the gallant men and officers of the Nigerian Army and the Air force for carrying out offensive attacks at the enclaves of the bandits in Birnin Gwari area.

Calls to the State police command Public Rations Officer ASP Mohammed Jalige to seek confirmation and clarification were not answered as at the time of filling this report.

  • Bandits neutralized 

But the State Commissioner for Internal Security and and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement issued on Saturday said Air platforms on Thursday conducted eight missions over identified bandit hideouts and other locations of interest around the state.

According to the operational feedback to the Kaduna State Government, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) flights were conducted over the Kaduna-Abuja highway, Akilbu and Barebari, where normal activities were observed.

The situation was similar over Saulawa and Maguzawa. At Farin Ruwa however, scores of bandits were sighted on motorcycles. They were duly engaged and neutralized by the fighter jet crew.

Other locations covered include Riyawa Sarki, Sabon Gida Riyawa, Bunu, Hayin Maidawa, Buruku, Ungwan Yako and adjoining settlements, as well as Kidandan, Dogon Dawa, Sabon Fili, Maguza, Damari and Ngede Allah.

More armed bandits were sighted with herds of cattle along the track from Ungwan Yako to Kuduru.

They were engaged and neutralized by the crew.
