Four persons, including the sister in-law to Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita, lawmaker representing Katsina North in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, have been abducted.

Daura, where President Muhammadu Buhari hails from, is under Katsina North.

A resident of Kankia, Muhammad Sani, said the attackers came in the early hours of Monday and operated for hours.

He said the attack took place at Bakin Kasuwa neighborhood, where they invaded the residence of Mani Babba Kaita, the younger brother to the Senator, and abducted his wife.

He added that the gunmen also entered the house of one Sabe Halilu in the same neighbourhood where they manhandled his wife and abducted two of his children, including a primary school girl.

Another resident, Salisu Musa, said the attackers also abducted another housewife from the same area.

“They actually came for the Senator’s younger brother, but he sneaked out of the house. One of his wives was also able to escape, but the victim, Farida, saw that her children were there she could not abandon them to escape, that is how they got her.

“As for the other victim, her husband was not at home when they came, so as she wanted to escape they beat her up and kidnapped two of the children. In all, they abducted two house wives and two others including a little girl,” he said.

Kankia is an important town along Kano-Katsina road. This is not the first time the town would be attacked by bandits.

In a separate attack, bandits also killed a driver, simply identified as Dahiru along Funtua road.

Sources said the deceased refused to follow the gunmen when they attempted to kidnap him alongside other commuters.

“Late Dahiru refused to follow them as he said his family didn’t have the financial ability to pay any ransoe if he was kidnapped and the bandits threatened to execute him there and then, to which he said so be it,” the source said.

Katsina Police spokesman SP Gambo Isah, did not pick calls or respond to text message seeking for confirmation on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
