Bandits have invaded Yar Tsakuwa, a village in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducting nine persons, among them a serving councillor, Lawali Bello, also known as LBY.
A daughter of a former councillor in the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba, was also among the abductees.
A resident of the area, Nazifi Abdullahi, told Daily Trust on Sunday that the bandits came in the wee hours of Saturday and operated till 2:50am.
“They ransacked all our houses and shops, including medical stores,” he said, adding that the bandits stole many motorcycles, foodstuff and assorted drugs.
He noted that the miscreants had initially abducted over 20 persons but released some of them on their way out of the village.
“Nine persons are currently with them, including our serving councillor and wives and daughter of our former councillor,” Abdullahi said.
He revealed that the wives and daughter of the former councillor were in the village to attend the naming ceremony of their newborn grandson, having left the village because of incessant attacks by bandits.
Abdullahi added that one person shot by the bandits had been taken to Talatan Mafara General Hospital in Zamfara State for treatment.
The police spokesman in Sokoto, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, had not responded to calls and text messages sent to him as at press time.
